Darrell Grant v. Joshua Taylor

Filed: Feb 24, 2025
Type: CJ

What's This Case About?

Let’s get one thing straight: this isn’t just another fender-bender. This is a full-on, knuckle-to-face, I-have-kids meltdown in the middle of a Tulsa intersection. A rear-end collision spirals into a physical brawl, one guy gets punched in the face, the other flees the scene like he’s in a bad action movie, and now we’re knee-deep in a civil lawsuit with a paper trail longer than a CVS receipt. Welcome to CrazyCivilCourt, where the stakes are low, the tempers are high, and the drama is always gratuitous.

Meet Darrell Grant, a 64-year-old man driving his 2007 GMC Yukon — a vehicle so old it probably remembers when GPS meant “Good luck, Pal, you’re screwed.” He’s minding his business, driving south on North Lewis Avenue, stops at a red light at East Apache Street, when — wham — the universe (or more specifically, a 2025 Chevy Trax) decides to rearrange his rear bumper. The driver? Joshua Taylor, a 33-year-old man with a rap sheet longer than his list of unpaid traffic tickets. He’s behind the wheel, allegedly without a valid license, and instead of doing the adult thing — you know, exchanging insurance info, maybe a grumble about insurance rates — he does the opposite of adult. He gets out of his car, starts cussing, and then, in a move so cartoonish it belongs in a Looney Tunes sketch, punches Darrell Grant in the face. With a closed fist. In broad daylight. On a public street. Because apparently, road rage peaked in 2025 with a sucker punch.

Now, you’d think after committing an act of vehicular assault, Taylor might stick around to explain himself. Nope. He hops back into his shiny new Chevy Trax and peels off, leaving Darrell bleeding and bewildered. But not before a witness calls 911 and Darrell manages to get the license plate — RAH269 — like some kind of amateur detective in a white Yukon. The cops track Taylor down at his home on North Wheeling Avenue, where he claims Darrell was the aggressor, poking him in the forehead and threatening him with a gun. Taylor says he left because “I have kids.” Which, sure, a noble sentiment — unless you’re fleeing a crime scene, which he was, and also have a history of not showing up to court, which he does. Repeatedly.

Because let’s talk about Joshua Taylor’s greatest hits. This man isn’t just a one-time offender. He’s a repeat performer. Back in 2013, he pled guilty to possession of drugs in the presence of a minor and destroying evidence — because why not commit two crimes at once? Then, in 2015, he got nailed for speeding 15 mph over the limit and driving without a license — and guess what? He never paid the fines. In 2016, he was charged with speeding again and driving without insurance — and again, didn’t show up to court. A bench warrant was issued. And in 2022? He pled guilty to driving with a suspended license — and again, still hasn’t paid the fines. This guy treats court appearances like optional yoga classes: he knows he should go, but he just… doesn’t.

So now, Darrell Grant is suing him for negligence (for the rear-end crash) and assault and battery (for the punch heard ’round Tulsa). He’s also throwing in a request for punitive damages — not because he necessarily wants to bankrupt Taylor, but because, well, the man has shown a pattern of ignoring rules, laws, and basic human decency. Under Oklahoma law, if you flee the scene of an accident involving property damage, you can be on the hook for triple the damages — so Darrell’s $2,678 repair estimate could become $8,034. And while the insurance company already paid out $1,059 for the totaled Yukon (because, let’s be real, that thing had seen better decades), Darrell is still claiming over $20,000 in medical expenses for injuries to his spine, face, teeth, and even his heart — all allegedly from the punch. The filing says he has a life expectancy of 23.7 more years, which means, legally speaking, he’s got decades of potential pain and suffering to monetize. And sure, some of that might be real — a punch to the face is no joke — but let’s not pretend this isn’t also a man trying to get something from someone who clearly has nothing.

But here’s the most absurd part: Darrell claims he pulled a gun during the altercation. According to his statement, he pulled it “for safety and self-defense” after being punched. Taylor, of course, says Darrell was the one waving the firearm around like a lunatic. Now, we don’t know if Darrell actually had a gun, or if it was drawn, or if it was even loaded — but the fact that both men are accusing the other of escalating with a firearm? In a fender-bender? That’s not just road rage. That’s a sitcom pilot. “Two drivers. One intersection. One punch. One possible gun. Tune in next week.”

So where does this leave us? Darrell wants money — not a fortune, but enough to cover his medical bills and send a message. Taylor, meanwhile, is a man with a history of vanishing when the law comes knocking. He’s already got bench warrants, unpaid fines, and a criminal record that reads like a checklist of bad decisions. Is he going to show up for this civil case? Probably not. Will he pay? Even less likely. But that’s not really the point. The point is, this case is a perfect storm of human pettiness: a minor collision, an overreaction, a punch, a flight, and now a lawsuit that’s less about justice and more about ego, pride, and the undeniable truth that some people should not be allowed near steering wheels — or fists.

We’re rooting for Darrell to get some kind of closure — not necessarily a fat check, but at least a judge saying, “Yes, you were wronged.” And we’re also rooting for Taylor to finally, finally show up to court — if only so we can ask him: What, exactly, were you thinking when you punched a 64-year-old man and then drove away? Because we’re dying to know.

Glossary Accident Indicator CARFAX receives information about accidents in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Canada. Not every accident is reported to CARFAX. As details about the accident become available, those additional details are added to the CARFAX Vehicle History Report. CARFAX recommends that you have this vehicle inspected by a qualified mechanic. • According to the National Safety Council, Injury Facts, 2021 edition, 5% of the 276 million registered vehicles in the U.S. were involved in an accident in 2019. Over 77% of these were considered minor or moderate. • This CARFAX Vehicle History Report is based only on information supplied to CARFAX and available as of 4/30/25 at 10:14:47 PM (CDT). Other information about this vehicle, including problems, may not have been reported to CARFAX. Use this report as one important tool along with a vehicle NOT HAVE BEEN REPORTED TO CARFAX. USE THIS REPORT AS ONE IMPORTANT TOOL, ALONG WITH A VEHICLE INSPECTION AND TEST DRIVE, TO MAKE A BETTER DECISION ABOUT YOUR NEXT USED CAR. First Owner When the first owner(s) obtains a title from a Department of Motor Vehicles as proof of ownership. New Owner Reported When a vehicle is sold to a new owner, the Title must be transferred to the new owner(s) at a Department of Motor Vehicles. Ownership History CARFAX defines an owner as an individual or business that possesses and uses a vehicle. Not all title transactions represent changes in ownership. To provide estimated number of owners, CARFAX proprietary technology analyzes all the events in a vehicle history. Estimated ownership is available for vehicles manufactured after 1991 and titled solely in the US including Puerto Rico. Dealers sometimes opt to take ownership of a vehicle and are required to in the following states: Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania and South Dakota. Please consider this as you review a vehicle's estimated ownership history. Repossession When a repossession occurs a vehicle owner fails to make loan payments, and the financial institution holding the title takes possession of the vehicle. Title Issued A state issues a title to provide a vehicle owner with proof of ownership. Each title has a unique number. Each title or registration record on a CARFAX report does not necessarily indicate a change in ownership. In Canada, a registration and bill of sale are used as proof of ownership.
